Formations & Why

In this blog post we will discuss our many formations we use and why we like each one.  One thing I need to mention is we color code all our formations so we can signal them as apart of our no huddle concepts.  You will notice there are quite a few and we really became a high number formation team with a low number of schemes team.  We really use them to manipulate a defense by front or perimeter to be able to run our base Big 5 plays or our Run and Shoot passing concepts.  With that said, you have to make sure you go over how each formation may affect blocking rules as sometimes moving a player over 2-3 feet creates a "new position" in their minds!!

Gold

Gold is our base formation, we use this formation as a starting point for our offense in everything we do.  This formation keeps everything balanced.

Gold Tight

Love this formation!, it allows you to manipulate the perimeter blocking schemes easily and can give you clues as to how a defense is defending the triple option.

Gold Flex Right

We use this formation to help us with #3/2 Exchange and to help us with our Run & Shoot passing concepts.

Gold Flex Left

We use this formation to help us with #3/2 Exchange and to help us with our Run & Shoot passing concepts.

Gold Tight Right

The formation allows us manipulate the perimeter of one side of the defense and can give you clues as to how a defense is defending the triple option.

Gold Tight Left

The formation allows us manipulate the perimeter of one side of the defenseand can give you clues as to how a defense is defending the triple option. .

Clear

We use this exclusively vs. 8 man fronts and to help us create a numbers advantage depending on if the defensive takes the corner over or bumps.  If we wanted the formation flipped, we would just signal Clear Flip.

Clear Tight.PNG

Clear Tight

We use this vs. 8 man fronts, in particular Bear fronts beacuse it gices you a three man surface without needing a TE/Extra Tackle. If we wanted the formation flipped, we would just signal Clear Tight Flip.

Silver.PNG

Silver

We use this formation vs. Man coverage teams or teams that rotate their safeties and to help us with our Run & Shoot Passing concepts.  If we wanted the formation flipped we would just call it Silver Flip.

Black.PNG

Black

We use this formation at my current school as our base.  We also use it to manipulate Odd front defenses.  We have found this formation really simplifies our blocking rules for IV vs. all fronts.

Black Over.PNG

Black Over

Love this formation!! This one keeps the defense balanced in the secondary but allows you to manipulate the Odd Front.  This also gives you a bigger body at the point of attack and a passing threat away from the over load.

Yellow.PNG

Yellow

Use this formation a lot vs. Man Coverage teams, love to run Mid-line away from trips and to run our Run & Shoot passing concepts

Yellow Over

Again trying manipulate Man coverage teams. We also like to use it vs. Odd fronts.
